My Mate Walters
Rich Mills
Walters is a black man asylum seeker in Hull, from Cameroon, the English speaking part, (under authority of Nigeria) south of the country under persistent threat from north population.
Although the North has its independence from France, the south English speaking section is under constant threat of terror.
He has lived here in Hull for four years, having escaped terror and reported into Queens Gardens police station ever month.
His last visit resulted in detainment and without organized legal aid he
is under threat of being returned to a situation of human terror.

Despite Mo from thisisUll.com being present at the vigil for my mate Walters, I felt that I too wanted write something.
What to write, and what difference it will make to his plight, I was unsure!
The photos I took shown here, have in some way become a symbol of what we tried to do for Walters - what we thought best.
To let him know that there are people out there that do give a damn, and are willing to stand and be counted when a good person like Walters is done an injustice.
On Friday evening when many of the inhabitants of Hull were partying away as they do every Friday only streets away, we stood outside Queens Gardens police station to let our friend know we cared for him, in his time of great loneliness, locked-up in a small prison cell awaiting likely deportation.
The camera was taken into the police station by a friend of his, to show Walters that we were there for him.
That was the point, that is the point. The point of the pictures, the point of this piece. To do what ever we can however small it may seem, but do something to help our friend.
My mate Walters.

Articles - Made In Hull - Part One - Arundel Street Days By Maurice Fairfield

My story begins in Arundel Street and wanders away to the shallow end of Holderness Road next door to the tram sheds and opposite the old Astoria Cinema, which was at that time the New Astoria Cinema.
Then to Hedon for a time, then back to Arundel a couple of years before the outbreak of the war.

Articles - Speed Dating By Ash Jamieson
I've seen it. I've peeked down the rabbit's hole.
A large group of people all looking for love in a pub on White Friar Gate. Great to watch, daunting to be a part of but on the whole, good fun all round.
Speed dating, for those that have never witnessed the phenomena, is exactly what it sounds like.
Dating at speed. A group of people split down

Articles - The Oscars 2004 By Steve Rudd
The highlight of Hollywood's calendar, The Oscars seem to come around faster every year.
Our man in LA to report back to Britain on proceedings was Film 2004 face Jonathan Ross who didn't do a bad job at all, but seemed hampered by his panel of three accompanying guests in the form of Welsh (supposed) funnyman
Rob Brydon, and the impersonating duo of Ronni

Articles - Pregnancy - Revisited by Nicholas Boldock
Life - it's a funny old game. Love, loss, rejection, success, pride, humility, happiness, sorrow - all part and parcel of the old cradle-to-grave board game. Personally, my life has taken a turn for the "bloody hectic" over the last week or so. And I think I now have an idea what this funny old game is all about.
Those of you who are lucky enough to have no problems with short..

By Glenn Williams (Lazyswede productions)
Bands are always complaining that they cannot get their CD's played on air and it's true, for most unsigned bands is not easy unless it's something really special.
There are shows Like Alan Raw's Raw Talent which does its best to give all bands an opportunity to be heard which is very good.

Articles - Hull, Hell And Incidents, Deliver Us. By Patrick Henry
My arrival in Scarborough at the age of zero happened only months after my folks moved here from the Hull area, so that their voices and views impressed me stronger than those in my birthplace.
Mother said Hullers look down or up to nobody, but Scarborians look always over their shoulder jealous of anyone having more than deserved, or more than grabbed by themselves.

Articles - A Woman in Chains.
I am, I suppose, a woman in chains. In this extremely bizarre world we try to live in, I will always be linked to my past....
15 years ago I was involved in a crime, something I did because I was young, unguided and naïve.
I lost more than my freedom as if that wasn't enough; I lost my children, my home, my family and most of my friends.

Articles - The Hole-in-the-Wall Gang By Patrick Henry
The Hole-in-the-Wall is a pub found in Scarborough's Vernon Road, a steep hill linking the town centre almost to the sea-front and the Spa, and in the lower half of the street is almost the only building but for the quaint Rotunda museum. Otherwise only blank tall walls rise, holding up gardens and terrace-housing high beyond.

Articles - Tribal Tattoo . By Starpaw.
Last week the humdrum of everyday life was getting me down; I needed a pick-me-up, a rush - but where exactly do today's rebellious teena...20 somethings go to get their kicks? A piercing and tattoo shop? Surely not?
It'd been a week since I'd been gearing myself up for this, the time it had taken to find a willing victim, I mean friend, to take with me to hold my hand, so to speak while I pay..
