Kids From Ings Make A Song And Dance About It
By Rich Mills
|
|
Park Life or Parky Musical is a production created and developed by a group of young
people from Ings Estate, in East Hull.
Through 10 weeks of workshops, facilitated by Creative Play, the group who aged from as
young as 4, created their own mini musical.
|
The workshops held at St. Marks Church, where Partners 4 Change (a Hull DOC project) is based,
brought out the creative energies of the group.
With support from Sue Wicks, one of the Hull DOC Participation Worker based at St. Marks,
the group aim to carry on the success of Parky The Musical, and possibly develop the idea
into a full blown musical production.
|
|
|
On Monday 13th July the group gave their premiere performance, at Craven Park Stadium's function rooms.
Along with dance and drama groups from other parts of the city, the St. Marks group were the only
ones that were community based, rather than from a school.
All credit must go to the group, who produced a brilliant and vibrant piece of theatre.
|
With a mixture of dance, poetry, music and song, they could not be faulted.
The overall message of the piece was about the lack of park spaces, and places for young people
to "lark" in that are safe.
The strength of this message shone through as of great relevance to their young lives.
There are plans to carry on the workshops based at St. Marks, and anyone in the area is
invited to join in and take part.
|
|
|
Over the summer holidays, Partners 4 Change have developed a whole range of activities for
young people, from 10.00am through until 4.00pm, every week day.
These activities range from Arts & Crafts, Digital Media, Sport, Dance & Drama, and much more.
To find out more about the summer activities, contact
Hull DOC at St. Marks on (01482) 707476 or (01482) 709664 for information and registration details.

Articles - LIFE SURE IS STRANGE A short story By Glenn Williams

As I opened my eyes the sunlight shone through the crack between the curtains and it was blinding, I was eventually forced to get up. After a short visit to the bathroom I made my way downstairs and was instantly attacked by the dogs coming at me from all directions jumping at me with tongues and tails wagging in unison, as I walked

Another escape plan successfully put into action, and we were on our way back up to the heartland of God's own county. North Yorkshire was the destination, and a few days of tranquillity being at one with nature herself.
This time it was the solstice and we took our friend Mark with us. The first place we headed for was a farm near

How many people here in Hull (sorry 'ull) can describe their life as .. Get up, go to work,
go home, and go to bed.. with a little food in the middle.
A lot of people do this for a living; another lot of people are doing it in waiting for one
thing, which will change that rota.
Man, am I waiting. As a lot of you know by now, I am waiting eagerly to get an A-level in
biology and chemistry so I can go to

Articles - Things To Do Before You're 30 Part 2 By Sarah Tomlinson

When I was younger, like most iddy-biddy girls, I had the dream of being a pop star. Singing, dancing, whatever on stage and having thousands of mad fans calling my name and singing the words of my latest single.
Admittedly that dream carried on for me. So much so that it's kind of still there. But the dream of stardom
