Oooooh! I love this time of year in 'Ull. 7 years here and my 7th Hull Fair. As every year, I went with my friends Tif and Steve. My 8 year old daughter, Scarlett and Tifs 3 children Ross, Robbie and Shoni.
Between us a total of £150 was spent, 1 huge tiger was won, 2 flashing dummies and 3 flashing hats were bought, 5 hotdogs, 2 burgers, 1 chips and 5 corn on the cob were scoffed and smiles were on our faces all night.
|
The rides were all great, if a little short but the best one of all had to be the Eclipse. The Eclipse was the highest ride this year and seats only 8 people at a time. My heart was racing as I queued with a ticket that cost me £5 for supposedly the ride of my life. 'Uh we'll see..' I thought, 'I bet it's pants!'.
Next thing, I'm there, sitting in a snug seat and a huge padded harness was locking me in with no room to move. I felt extremely safe - surprisingly!

|
|
Now, this 'ride' literally flings you (minus your stomach) up into the night sky back and forth until it and you reach the highest point. And down you are thrown, backwards. My heart was pounding and the adrenaline rush that I was having was second to none. Even if in some cases this is not seen as extreme, it was enough for me!
|
Back up we went, where I was held upside down at the highest point. Looking behind me, the view was breathtaking. The moon glowed behind the mist of cloud and the river Humber glistened with the reflection of the city lights. The guy next to me gave the same response - 'WOW'.
And with that, I realised that the safety harness was my new best friend as I plunged forward nearer to the ground below before going back up to slow down. Amazing.

Articles - My Youth Days at Hull Fair by Barry Sleight
|
|
Hull Fair has always played an important role in my life. As a kid we all went to the fair as one big family. My Grandad and Granny came with us as did many of my cousins. I remember how exciting it used to be as you got nearer and could see the lights and smell popcorn and hotdogs and hear the music.

It's that time of year again when you look up at the sky and wonder how long it will be before the downpour of rain will come, falling like cats and dogs upon our heads and on our biggest delight ..….. HULL FAIR! It never fails to come and I'll never know why.

Drink at work,
drink at school.
Drink in the pub,
drink like a fool.
Drink while you're dancing,
drink when you're stoned.
Drink at your wedding,
drink 'cos your boyfriend never phoned.

Music Reviews - Pave Perform at the Welly Club
|
|
Pave’s performance is polished. Considering the band only formed in March this year, I was staggered to see how much they’d got their act together! Such a tight, professional band. I felt reassured when I took a look at their biographies. That’s when it all fell into place.

Articles - My Pregnancy Part One, by Heidi Boldock
|
|
Today is the 3rd October 2003 and I am writing this while off work. I must admit to not feeling on top of the world as you would think I probably should be. After all, I am going to be having my first, much wanted, baby in just under six months time. If you are reading this and know either Nick or I then you will be aware that trying for this baby has been a long and sometimes depressing experience. Read more...

Holidays
- Simple Holiday Pleasures by Mike

The time was 7.30 am and I was already awake. Liz stirred as I crept out of
the caravan without waking Alex and Anna. From our elevated position overlooking the bay,
the Med looked as calm as a millpond. The panoramic view was stunning as usual.
