Radio Airplay - Why just go for English Radio Shows? - It's a Big World Out There
By Glenn Williams (Lazyswede productions)
Bands are always complaining that they cannot get their CD's played on air and it's true, for most unsigned bands is not easy unless it's something really special.
There are shows Like Alan Raw's Raw Talent which does its best to give all bands an opportunity to be heard which is very good.
But then everyone wants the official airplay on Radio One, Radio Two and even on BBC 6 Music - which is getting bigger everyday but this is where the CD has to be good otherwise there is very little chance of being played.
In this day and age of the Internet all you have to do is checkout the radio stations available on line. There are so many you could get yourself lost just browsing!
But it seems that bands either don't know about this or they cannot be bothered, BUT WHY? That's the question.
Whatever the case, maybe that's a great place to start and if you take the time to email many of them they will reply and say; Yes. Please send us your CD and WE WILL PLAY IT!
This is what I do often for any bands I am trying to help and the response is very good.
When it comes to English bands, the Americans and Canadians want the CD's to play and it does not matter if you're unsigned, they still want them. So to help out you bands that have not realised how easy it actually is to get your music played, below is a list of non-commercial stations and University stations that will accept CD's from you and play them.
Believe me, the University stations in America & Canada are not like ours - their listeners cover a huge area and not just the local campus.
Hopefully this will have planted the seed to get you to start to surf the net for Internet Radio shows. Just remember one thing; don't go telling them how fantastic you are because that will put them off before they even get to hear the CD.
Be honest and tell them you are unsigned and that you would like to know if they would be interested in listening to your CD for their shows. Believe me they will reply.
Also remember that record labels often listen to these type of radio shows to make sure they are not missing out on the next big thing! Let's hope this will help you all….

Articles - Tribal Tattoo . By Starpaw.
Last week the humdrum of everyday life was getting me down; I needed a pick-me-up, a rush - but where exactly do today's rebellious teena...20 somethings go to get their kicks? A piercing and tattoo shop? Surely not?
It'd been a week since I'd been gearing myself up for this, the time it had taken to find a willing victim, I mean friend, to take with me to hold my hand, so to speak while I pay..

Articles - Star Wars Enter the Folk Music Scene

By Patrick Henry.
The NorthYorkshire moors are a remote area full of historical incidents up to the present when the Fylingdales missile-defence station has just been pledged to the U.S. Star-Wars system.
Roman forts, Viking raids, besieged castles from the Normans to the Stuarts, litter the fringes.
The Cold War nuclear brink ..

Articles - A Perspective on Hull By Darren Sant
I suppose you could call this article a follow to my article entitled Stranger in a Strange Land also on this website.
I wanted to explore my perception of Hull in a stream of consciousness kind of style.
One phrase that springs to mind when thinking of Hull is self-deprecating.
Something I have, rightly, being accused of being myself. Perhaps that is why I have grown to like Hull so much.

Articles - "More Memories of Dylan" By Jane
I remember clearly the first time I ever listened to the great Bob, however I cannot recall when exactly I decided that I liked him..
Having just left home on impulse at the tender age of 18, straight from a council estate to the Avenues in a vain attempt to 'better' myself, I ended up in a somewhat squalid (ie typical) bedsit on Park Grove. Owned by a somewhat dodgy (ie typical) landlord called Mr Leak ( cos all his roofs did just that).
