Aircraft and Airshows
International Airshow - Waddington 28-29 June 2003
By Tony

Hello, Tony here!

This was another well organised event put on by the Royal Air Force, with proceeds going to the R.A.F. benevolent fund charity whose members deserve all our help.
It was two days of superb weather and I was so pleased for the 130,000 fans who attended the show over the weekend. We were entertained and thrilled by some great flying - aircraft from the Belgian, Spanish, German, French, Norwegian, American, and Swiss airforces came to support the event.
If you like the speed and sound of the modern jets, you would have enjoyed the Tornado, F16 and Jaguars and everyone just loves the Harrier. Of the other types more in keeping with my age group (OAP) there was the elegant Hunter and Canberra, really fine examples of designs from days gone by.
I must mention the display performed by Denny Dobson in the EXTRA 300. It was fantastic and not the kind of aerobatics that you or I could endure, with your stomach in your boots one second and your mouth the next!

At about 4pm, we had the Hawks of the Red Arrows, Britains, nay, the Worlds Premier Formation Team, revered by all for the perfection of their display.

DON'T MISS NEXT YEARS SHOW!
I'm so sorry to have commitments that have kept me away from two great airshows, being Duxford 12th July and RAF Fairford on 19th July. If any enthusiasts out there went to these airshows, I would appreciate a report which we will feature on this site.

All the best,

Tony.

Aircraft and Airshows - Waddington International Airshow - June 26th and 27th 2004 By Tony
I travelled to the Airshow with trepidation, as the weather forecast was for cloud and rain and the prospect of no flying loomed large. But here we are and all worries regarding the forecast were forgotten as I entered this hive of activity. As all aircraft/Airshow enthusiasts know, the noise and smell of fuel excites the senses and one hurries Read more...

Aircraft and Airshows - Aircraft Stamps By Tony
By popular request, the ballroom dancer is back! I've been urged by email and phone to give you more aircraft stamps from around the world. So here is a selection of my favourites which I hope will whet your appetites. I'm hoping that other philatelists will come forward and show us what stamps they are collecting. Read more...

Aircraft and Airshows - Philately - Concorde Stamps By Tony
I'm a philatelist. In these modern times, that's like being a ballroom dancer on a skateboard ramp, a bit embarrassing. Over the years I've been a collector of aircraft stamps and have now around 4,000 stamps dating from 1922 to the present day. I've selected some of the stamps featuring Concorde to show the wide range of countries who felt the need to show this fantastic aircraft. Read more...

Aircraft and Airshows - Concorde by Tony
On Friday 24th October 2003 the last fight of Concorde by British Airways as a fare paying passenger aircraft took place. If you have flown on Concorde or have seen it in flight, you can understand what a great loss this will be to the nation. The aircraft, first airborne in 1969, was and is still out in front in design and technical innovation.    Read more...

Aircraft and Airshows - The Yorkshire Airshow - Elvington 2003 By Tony
What a pleasure to be here for 2 days (24th - 25th August)! We were fully entertained with a diverse mix of aircraft. Both days of the flying program opened with the superb Red Arrows. Unfortunately, on the first day they had to abort their display for safety reasons when three light aircraft strayed in to the six mile display zone. Without doubt there must be an investigation into this misdemeanour and culprits brought to book. Read more...
