Aircraft and Airshows |
|
 |
|
Hello, Tony here!
Let's discuss where you can see wonderful old and modern aircraft, maintained and kept flying by a dedicated team of engineers giving many hours of their time for free.
With the decline in the needs of the RAF, closure of airfields in the Yorkshire area has hit us hard.

Church Fenton and Finningley gone, Humberside a private airport, there's only Elvington left. This is a great airshow, well worth a visit on 24-25 August. For a nice picnic day out you should also visit Breighton, just outside York.
A small airshow with a good mix of aircraft - a day to relax with a personal atmosphere. If you venture over the bridge and into Lincolnshire, there's Waddington airshow. This show, on an RAF base will ensure there's plenty of modern hard metal flying. |
|
|
Most airshows are in the south, the outstanding one being at Duxford near Cambridge. Other good shows are at North Weald, Cosford, Kemble, Fairford, Old Warden and you won't be disappointed at any of these venues. |
|
The last airshow I visited was the Classic Airshow at Coventry. With over four hours of flying there was plenty of opportunity to get the camera out and photograph some superb aircraft. |
|
When did you last visit an airshow? Or have you ever?
Don't miss out on seeing planes worth millions putting on a display to thrill you! Formation flying, aerobatics, speed runs. Oh! The noise. the smell. it all leads up to one exciting day out! In addition to all this, you have stalls selling a wide variety of goodies and all the fun of the fair to keep the kids fully amused.

The cost of a ticket would be in the region of £6 to £12 - fantastic value, don't you think?
So where are these airshows? First on any list would be Duxford with its big and great museum. Others to make a note of: North Weald, Cosford, Fairford, Old Warden and Kemble.

On 31st May this year I visited the Coventry Classic Airshow; what a good day out! The weather was fine and sunny, ideal for me to photograph all the aircraft, with, as you can see, great results!

Now, can you name any or all of the aircraft I have photographed and shown on this page?
All the best,
Tony.

Aircraft and Airshows - Waddington International Airshow - June 26th and 27th 2004 By Tony
|
|
I travelled to the Airshow with trepidation, as the weather forecast was for cloud and rain
and the prospect of no flying loomed large.
But here we are and all worries regarding the forecast were forgotten as I entered this hive of activity.
As all aircraft/Airshow enthusiasts know, the noise and smell of fuel excites the senses and
one hurries

Aircraft and Airshows - The Magic of Concorde By Mike
|
|
People in London never tired of it. Men and women always stopped working and children stopped playing. They used to look up and point
"Concorde!" they marvelled.
They didn't ever

The Leeds Festival, Bramham Park August Bank Holiday Weekend 2004 By Steve Rudd
|
|
One of the finest rock-orientated festivals of any given summer season, this was the second time that
the massive 3-day event was held at Bramham Park, which is a beautiful site on the eastern fringes of
Leeds - and that has previously been used for horse trials.

Well, I managed to get 2 tickets for me and my friend Alex on Ebay
for £140 (including camping on the campsite next to V Campsite).
We set off at 7am on Friday 20th August to beat the early birds and to
make sure that we had a good place to pitch the tent.
We packed loads of stuff

Going Down - Oak Leaf Gathering (or Carry On Pagan) By Rich Mills
|
|
Oak Leaf gathering is an annual event, bringing together pagans from all over the country for a weekend.
In the setting of Lime Tree farm, the whole thing had an air of mystery.
Not just the wonderful stone circle, or the fantastic Iron-age round-house,
not even the beauty of the Yorkshire countryside that surrounded us.

Grounation Hull Jazz Festival 31st July By Jane Foster
|
|
Grounation were the first and the final act to go on today, and they didn't disappoint.
They're a jazz-funk-hip-hop outfit consisting of mainly Hull born musicians.
Apparently they got together specifically for this year's Jazz festival, but they
intend to carry on as a band, they told me.
They've got a good combination

African Spectacular Albert Nyathi & Imbongi Hull Jazz Festival 31st July By Michelle Dee
|
|
Oh what a treat the highly acclaimed Zimbabwean poet and his stunning group Imbongi
(praise poets) performing at the Hull Jazz festival 2004.
It was a grey drizzly day in Queens Gardens, the sky threatened us with a downpour
but my spirits would not be dampened.
The musicians from Imbongi started to play.
