The Charity Affair - 15th March 04
By Tony
I was invited to this event to meet a host of people who give lots of their time and energies to raise funds and awareness on behalf of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance Service (YAAS).
The venue was Abbey Lane Primary School, Sheffield, where I was welcomed by the headteacher, Ms. Susan Lee who put me at ease with a cup of tea in the school staff room.
In the assembly hall, 200 well behaved children gathered to hear a rousing talk by Pam who is the South Yorkshire Area YAAS fund raiser.
Then it's an orderly exit bay all, to the school grounds - where the YAAS helicopter will land.
With it being a windy, blustery day, the pilot showed great skill in setting down very gently amid the screams of delight from the excited children.

The pilot and two medics met the children and gave them a closer inspection of the helicopter while answering the many questions posed by the youngsters.
My next meeting was with the fund raising group Tender Loving Care who are based just across from the school at St. Chads Church House.
With the sale of home made scones, jam, pickles and their renowned carrot cake, this band of charity workers who pledged to raise funds for YAAS deserve all the plaudits for their dedication to the cause.
The stars of TLC I met should be mentioned here, so hats off to Norman, Linda, Jean and Babs.
So ended a day which gave me much pleasure, meeting a fine bunch of individuals who give their all to raise monies for charity.

Aircraft and Airshows - Aircraft Stamps By Tony
By popular request, the ballroom dancer is back! I've been urged by email and phone to give you more aircraft stamps from around the world. So here is a selection of my favourites which I hope will whet your appetites. I'm hoping that other philatelists will come forward and show us what stamps they are collecting. Read more...

Aircraft and Airshows - Philately - Concorde Stamps By Tony
I'm a philatelist. In these modern times, that's like being a ballroom dancer on a skateboard ramp, a bit embarrassing. Over the years I've been a collector of aircraft stamps and have now around 4,000 stamps dating from 1922 to the present day. I've selected some of the stamps featuring Concorde to show the wide range of countries who felt the need to show this fantastic aircraft. Read more...

Aircraft and Airshows - Concorde by Tony
On Friday 24th October 2003 the last fight of Concorde by British Airways as a fare paying passenger aircraft took place. If you have flown on Concorde or have seen it in flight, you can understand what a great loss this will be to the nation. The aircraft, first airborne in 1969, was and is still out in front in design and technical innovation.    Read more...

Aircraft and Airshows - The Yorkshire Airshow - Elvington 2003 By Tony
What a pleasure to be here for 2 days (24th - 25th August)! We were fully entertained with a diverse mix of aircraft. Both days of the flying program opened with the superb Red Arrows. Unfortunately, on the first day they had to abort their display for safety reasons when three light aircraft strayed in to the six mile display zone. Without doubt there must be an investigation into this misdemeanour and culprits brought to book. Read more...

Art Gallery - By Local Artist Patrick Henry
I became a self-taught painter at the age of 36 when living in a mediaeval village in the French Dordogne. Post-Impressionism had been my favourite kind of art for long before that. I think it has a basic relevance that will never be exhausted. Renaissance paintings are also very Read more...

Articles - If You Tolerate This, Your Children Will Be Next
(How Hull helped the children of Spain.) By Rich Mills
In May 1937 the Spanish liner Habana left Bilbao in Spain, on-board were 4,200 Basque children being brought to the safety of the UK. The Spanish Civil War had started on July 17th 1936, and the world stood by and watched in horror as innocents were slaughtered. Some however took it upon themselves to do something about the blood-shed. Read more...

Life - it's a funny old game. Love, loss, rejection, success, pride, humility, happiness, sorrow - all part and parcel of the old cradle-to-grave board game. Personally, my life has taken a turn for the "bloody hectic" over the last week or so. And I think I now have an idea what this funny old game is all about. Those of you who are lucky enough to have no problems with short.. Read more...
