The Vulcan - this is the aircraft that 99% of the spectators came to see.
It's now 60 years since work began on the 'Euro' prototype.
Designed as a nuclear bomber in the days of the cold war, the design was
decades ahead of its time, truly the Vulcan was a triumph of British engineering.
|
|
After 33 years of service, XH558 was flown into Bruntingthorpe on her final
RAF flight in March 1993 by Sqn Ldr Dave Thomas, who is today's pilot with
the Vulcan Operating Company. After two-and-a half years of intensive
engineering work and £6million of investment she is ready to fly.
This is her very first air show display since the early 90's and with amazing
grace and power she took to the air to thrill us all.
The distinctive shape makes it recognisable and it has incredible manoeuvrability
for such a large aircraft.
|
I was so glad to be here at Waddington to witness this display by the one and
only flying Vulcan, may she go on for many years.
To finish, lets not forget that this air show raises significant sums for the
Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund, The Royal Air Force Association and local charities.
This support for our service men and women past and present is vital, your help
and donations are appreciated greatly.

A most enjoyable and memorable day, thanks to all the staff and volunteers.

Aircraft and Airshows - Aircraft Stamps By Tony
|
|
By popular request, the ballroom dancer is back! I've been urged by email and phone to give you more aircraft stamps from around the world.
So here is a selection of my favourites which I hope will whet your appetites. I'm hoping that other philatelists will come forward and show us what stamps they are collecting.

Aircraft and Airshows - Philately - Concorde Stamps By Tony

I'm a philatelist. In these modern times, that's like being a ballroom dancer on a skateboard ramp, a bit embarrassing.
Over the years I've been a collector of aircraft stamps and have now around 4,000 stamps dating from 1922 to the present day.
I've selected some of the stamps featuring Concorde to show the wide range of countries who felt the need to show this fantastic aircraft.

Aircraft and Airshows - Concorde by Tony

On Friday 24th October 2003 the last fight of Concorde by British Airways as a fare paying passenger aircraft took place.
If you have flown on Concorde or have seen it in flight, you can understand what a great loss this will be to the nation. The aircraft, first airborne in 1969, was and is still out in front in design and technical innovation.

Aircraft and Airshows - The Magic of Concorde By Mike

People in London never tired of it. Men and women always stopped working and children stopped playing. They used to look up and point
"Concorde!" they marvelled.
They didn't ever

Aircraft and Airshows - The Yorkshire Airshow - Elvington 2003 By Tony
|
|
What a pleasure to be here for 2 days (24th - 25th August)! We were fully entertained with a diverse mix of aircraft.
Both days of the flying program opened with the superb Red Arrows. Unfortunately, on the first day they had to abort their display for safety reasons when three light aircraft strayed in to the six mile display zone. Without doubt there must be an investigation into this misdemeanour and culprits brought to book.

Aircraft and Airshows - Waddington 28-29 June 2003 By Tony
|

Hello, Tony here!
This was another well organised event put on by the Royal Air Force, with proceeds going to the R.A.F. benevolent fund charity whose members deserve all our help.
It was two days of superb weather and I was so pleased for the 130,000 fans who attended the show over the weekend. We were entertained and thrilled by some great flying - aircraft from the Belgian, Spanish, German, French, Norwegian, American, and Swiss airforces came to support the event.

Hello, Tony here!
Let's discuss where you can see wonderful old and modern aircraft, maintained and kept flying by a dedicated team of engineers giving many hours of their time for free.
With the decline in the needs of the RAF, closure of airfields in the Yorkshire area has hit us hard.

Articles - This Is East 'Ull
By Nicholas Boldock

Way back in the October of 1975, I popped my head out in Hedon Road Maternity Hospital, wailed a bit, and said hello to East Hull, which was to be my home for the next 18 years, give or take.

I became a self-taught painter at the age of 36 when living in a mediaeval
village in the French Dordogne.
Post-Impressionism had been my favourite kind of art for long before that.
I think it has a basic relevance that will never be exhausted.
Renaissance paintings are also very

Driving - Jo's DRIVING LESSONS
|
|
Here I was living alone with my 3 children, my husband having just left us to cope alone. My eldest daughter, only just 18, was keen to learn to drive and I didn't want to spend a fortune on driving lessons, at least not until she could learn as much as she could from me.
